  • Intern: Full Stack Software Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Hybrid

Commitment: 10 hours/week

Compensation: $1,000/month

Duration: 3 months, with potential to convert to a full-time, permanent position based on performance and fit

About Vendorful

Vendorful is an AI-powered Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and e-sourcing platform that helps procurement teams run RFx events, manage suppliers, track contracts, and reduce costs – faster and with no lengthy implementation. We work with enterprise customers.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer intern to help us build and ship features across our product, and work directly with customers to configure, troubleshoot, and tailor the platform to their workflows. This is a hybrid role: part product engineering, part hands-on customer-facing problem solving – ideal for someone who likes seeing their code used in the real world quickly, not just shipped into a backlog.

This is a 3-month internship with a real path to full-time employment for the right candidate. We’re looking for someone who could grow into a core member of the engineering team.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and ship features across the Vendorful platform (frontend and backend)
  • Work directly with the engineering team to debug, configure, and customize the product for specific enterprise customers
  • Translate customer requirements (sourcing workflows, supplier scorecards, contract workflows) into technical solutions
  • Design, build, and consume REST APIs as part of day-to-day feature work
  • Build and refine AI-powered features – e.g., RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, model fine-tuning, and eval frameworks for our AI-assisted RFx tools
  • Help diagnose and resolve technical issues raised by customers or internal stakeholders
  • Participate in code reviews and engineering discussions

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree with a technical focus (Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience) – open to all levels of study
  • Comfortable in any programming language. We care about strong fundamentals and the ability to pick up our stack quickly, not a specific language on your CV
  • Hands-on experience with AI models and platforms, including practical exposure to at least some of: RAG, agentic systems, fine-tuning, and evals
  • Strong knowledge of and familiarity with REST APIs
  • Highly responsive and reliable – this role requires someone who responds quickly, takes ownership, and can be counted on
  • A fast learner and fast problem solver, comfortable working with ambiguity – forward deployed work means requirements aren’t always fully spec’d upfront
  • Good communication skills; comfortable explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-starter who can work independently in a flexible, part-time, hybrid setup

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct mentorship from the CTO and founding engineering team
  • Real ownership of shipped features used by enterprise customers
  • Hands-on experience applying AI/LLM techniques (RAG, agentic systems, fine-tuning, evals) in production environments
  • Exposure to both product engineering and customer-facing technical work
  • A genuine opportunity to convert to a full-time, permanent role at the end of the internship
  • A reference even if the role doesn’t convert
  • Mentorship in engineering judgment – not just “getting things done”, but learning to weigh tradeoffs and find the optimal solution for a given context: when to move fast vs. be rigorous, when to build vs. buy, and how to balance speed, cost, and quality for the specific problem at hand

Logistics

  • 10 hours/week, flexible scheduling around your course load
  • $1,000/month stipend
  • Hybrid
  • 3-month duration, with option for full-time permanent position
  • Reports to: CTO
